Meet Microsoft’s New CEO – Satya Nadella
Earlier today Microsoft ended months of speculation on the appointment of its 3rd CEO by announcing the position has been filled by 20 year Microsoft veteran Satya Nadella. Nadella had been tipped as being the most likely candidate by media experts such as Mary Jo Foley for many months now, and the decision appears to have been meet with a great deal of agreement.
Nadella starts immediately at the helm allowing Steve Ballmer to step down and retire ahead of schedule. This comes at a great time as Microsoft gear up for a busy year, with the final details and transactions on the Nokia deal closing up soon.
But there’s more. Alongside this announcement Bill Gates has stepped down as Chairman of Microsoft to make way for new incoming chairman John Thompson. This move was requested by Nadella so that Gates could increase his involvement at Microsoft as a technology advisor. The role would take up one third of Gates’ busy schedule still allowing him to focus on the work he does with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The new chairman John Thompson has plenty of experience in Silicon Valley, with previous appointments as CEO of Virtual Instruments and CEO of Symantec. Only time will tell how this new leadership line up will perform, but either way it does bode well for a good few years ahead for the tech giant.
Alongside the early interview Nadella completed was a couple of messages from Microsoft’s Founderand 1st CEO Bill Gates, the outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer and John Thompson the Chairman for Microsoft.
