Nvidia’s 192 Core Mobile Processor
Nvidia are certainly not in the mood for slowing down. Each year they appear to be breaking new grounds in processing power with each iteration of its Tegra chipset. However it has apparently reached a point where the usual linear number system of these chips (Tegra 3 , 4 , etc) does not do suitable justice to the massive improvements that Nvidia have reached.
Instead, according to CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, the architecture that Nvidia are using has left the linear growth of the processor family far behind.
So the Tegra K1 is born. And it certainly has a lot of power, a full 192 GPU cores of power. Bearing in mind that this a chip designed for a mobile platform that is extremely impressive.
What this will mean is that devices such as Microsoft’s Surface can look forward to a refreshed chipset that offers vast amounts of power without, hopefully, eating up all of your power.
And Nvidia are not finished there, with another iteration set to release post in 2015 so time.
