Intel to leave the desktop motherboard market
This one slipped right past me , Intel are getting out of the desktop motherboard marker !
Did i miss the memo or has this one just slipped past most the IT media. Intel made an an announcement back in early February that over the next 3 years Intel will be ramping down its desktop mother board business. Personally i have used a few of Intel’s Micro ITX motherboards for various Media Centre’s and they have been been great.
Intel will continue to supply desktop chipsets for use by 3rd party motherboard manufacturers like ASUS, ASRock and Gigabyte, but after 2013 it will no longer produce and sell its own desktop mITX/mATX/ATX designs in the channel.
Logic would say that a declining PC market means that we are going to have an over supply of PC mother board manufactures in the next few years so i can see why Intel are making this change but it is such a shame to see Intel pull out of the motherboard market.
